I so appreciate the episodes of this pod-blog! While I’m so far from being a real writer (stringing words together like cranberries and popcorn at Christmas - a task we children were assigned), I still have a sense I’m assembling a 1,000 piece puzzle with lots of muted colors. A full picture awaits but can’t be achieved by tossing away 50 pieces here and there! And breaking off the teeny interconnecting legs of the pieces - to make it “fit” - seems like a dead giveaway!

Is the use of a Thesaurus to find alternatives to our everyday words considered cheating? If we don’t usually use these words in our everyday communication, is this akin to having a cheat sheet? If I should add some books on writing to my bookshelves, they’ll be right at home beside “The Things They Carried.” “Lone Survivor” is nearby.

For now, I’ll stick to tuning in every Thursday for the next episode!

This is Gail...

I am a regular Thesaurus user! I like to experiment with words for their sound and nuance of meaning.

If that's cheating... I'm okay with it.

I like to think of it as being a word explorer, sleuth, experimenter. 🤭
