One Line, One Love: Margaret O'Brien

Episode 7: Weather, Beauty, and Containers of Fun
13

Author: Margaret O’Brien

Book: Weather Report

One Line: "Then she remembered! She had that morning seen a blue butterfly on a patch of grass..."

Margaret sums up this line in one word:
Beauty

I chose to share this line because noticing beauty in the everyday is a key part of the Weather Report daily practice.

5 Truths About Margaret:

  • I live in southeast Ireland.

  • The view from my kitchen window is towards a mountain whose name translates as 'the mountain of the women'.

  • I love when the first shoots of vegetables appear through the ground in our garden in late spring.

  • I love to sea swim at a place called The Guillamenes (we live 30 mins from the coast) and to lift weights.

  • I have the phrase / question, 'Are you afraid of this happiness?', pinned to the wall beside my desk.

Margaret’s Prompt Invitation

Set a timer for ten minutes, take paper and pen and write the heading 'Outstandingly Splendid Things', then quickly list as many as possible. Return to your list each day and take one item and do a timed freewrite for a page or a paragraph on one splendid thing from your list. (h/t to 'The Pillow Book of Sei Shōnagon').

Please share five ‘Outstandingly Splendid Things’ in the comments section below.
